Hello!
I had a lovely Roppongi date with a first-time boyfriend who came all the way from the United States! ðºðž
We met at the National Art Center, Tokyo! ð·
Today, we visited the exhibition:
âShojo Manga Infinity: Moto Hagio à Ryoko Yamagishi à Waki Yamatoâ
There were so many original drawings and beautiful color illustrations on display that we almost didnât have enough time to see everything!
It felt like stepping right into the world of manga I love, and I got completely absorbed in the exhibition.
We also talked about The Tale of Genji, which inspired some of the anime adaptations. I was surprised to hear that my boyfriend had actually studied it in one of his classes in the United States when he was in high school!
There was also a kimono exhibition, and I really enjoyed exploring everything while chatting with him. âºïž
After the exhibition, we headed to Salon de Thé ROND!âïžð°
Itâs such a beautiful café located in the upper part of the building. âºïž
Itâs a very popular and photogenic spot, and there was a surprisingly long line! ð³
While waiting, we had lots of wonderful conversations. He told me about his hometown, his family and friends, and all the places he had visited in Japan.
And hereâs something that really surprised meâŠâŠ
I had actually visited his hometown before!!
Itâs a peaceful little city surrounded by nature. ðŠââ¬ð I really loved the place, so discovering that we shared this unexpected connection made me incredibly happy.
As it turned out, I had visited his hometown to see a concert by an American band. We got so excited talking about the band! âºïž
From there, our conversation naturally moved on to American movies and culture, American society, politics, cultural differences, and religious perspectivesâŠ
Before we knew it, we were discussing some really deep topics.
To be honest, in this line of work, I had never had such an in-depth conversation with someone before.
My boyfriend had clearly thought a lot about American society, and I found myself agreeing with so many of his ideas and concerns. We talked about what kind of society we would like to see in the future, the importance of understanding different cultures, and how the world might change when people genuinely make an effort to understand one another.
Before I knew it, I had completely lost track of time!
Both Japan and the United States change as generations pass. Cityscapes change through urban development, old scenery disappears, and peopleâs lifestyles evolve.
Just as the streets my grandparents knew are different from the ones I know today, he told me that the world he grew up in was also different from the one his father and grandfather had experienced.
Being able to share these thoughts and perspectives with him was truly special to me.
When it comes to professionalism in this line of work, some people might feel that itâs best to avoid discussing politics or social issues.
However, when my boyfriend shares his thoughts and feelings with me, I genuinely want to listen and understand his perspective.
I also want to be someone who can express my own thoughts and answer the question I often hear in conversations with Americans: âSo, what do you think?â
Of course, we wonât always agree on everything. But I believe there is something truly meaningful about learning how another person sees the world, sharing our own perspectives, and making an effort to understand each other.
To me, thatâs one of the most wonderful and rewarding parts of connecting with another person.Â
Itâs not every day that I get to discuss such meaningful topics so naturally and deeply with someone. This was a genuinely precious experience, and itâs something Iâll remember for a long time.
Now, back to our dateâŠ!
At the café, we enjoyed sandwiches and cake for dessert. ð°
After that, we walked over to Midtown for dinner!
We went to Sushi Tokyo Ten!
Absolutely amazing!!!
The chef was so friendly and kept chatting with us in English! My boyfriend seemed to be having such a great time, and seeing him enjoy himself made me happy, too. âºïž
We chose the omakase course, and guess what? We were served 24 different kinds of sushi!
At some point, we completely lost track of how many pieces we had eaten, and we started asking each other:
âHey, how many kinds have we had so far?â
âWait⊠I donât remember either!â
We ended up laughing about it while enjoying our meal. ð
The abalone was huge and absolutely delicious, and I was amazed by how many different kinds of tuna we got to try!
Personally, I also loved steamed egg custard with matsutake mushrooms and the miso soup packed with clams.
Everything was delicious right until the very end, and I was feeling so happy. âºïž
I was frustrated that I couldnât explain all the different kinds of sushi in English and had to rely on a translation appâŠ! ð
Iâd love to learn more English names for fish and different types of sushi.
Experiences like this really make me want to study languages even more!
We enjoyed art at the museum, had wonderful conversations at the café, and finished the day with delicious sushi.
But more than anything, being able to share such meaningful and thoughtful conversations with him made this a truly unforgettable day for me.
Thank you so much for spending such a wonderful time with me!
I hope you continue to enjoy the rest of your trip in Japan to the fullest. âºïž
And now⊠Iâm dreaming of visiting the United States again someday! ðºðžâš
